One-time setup — completely free! Once done, every device you connect with the same Sync Code stays updated in real time.
Step 1 — Create your free Firebase project
- Go to: console.firebase.google.com
- Click Add Project → give it any name → Create
- Click the Web icon (</>) → Register app
- Copy the firebaseConfig values shown
- Open this software's HTML file in Notepad → find
FIREBASE_CONFIG near the bottom of the code
- Replace the placeholder values (YOUR_API_KEY, etc.) with your copied config, save the file
- In Firebase Console → build → Firestore Database → Create Database → start in test mode
⚠️ Important security step: "Test mode" leaves your database open to
anyone on the internet for 30 days, then it auto-locks. Before that timer runs out (or right away, to be safe), go to Firestore Database →
Rules tab and replace the rules with something like this, then click
Publish:
rules_version = '2';
service cloud.firestore {
match /databases/{database}/documents {
match /schools/{schoolId} {
allow read, write: if schoolId == "YOUR-SECRET-SYNC-CODE";
}
}
}
Replace
YOUR-SECRET-SYNC-CODE with the exact Sync Code you set in
PERMANENT_SYNC_CODE. This means only someone who knows your Sync Code can read or write your school's data — keep that code as private as a password and don't share the HTML file's source code publicly.
Step 2 — Put the file online (so every device can open it)
Upload the same HTML file to a free host like Netlify or your own web hosting, so every device opens the exact same URL instead of separate local copies.
Step 3 — Connect your devices
Go to Settings → Cloud Sync, generate a Sync Code on your first device, then enter that exact same code on every other device (computer, phone, tablet). They will all update instantly, live.
Until this is set up: your data stays safely on this one device's browser only. Use Download Backup regularly as extra protection either way.
